Borough Care is a provider of both live-in and residential care for the elderly and specialises in care for patients with dementia. They have 11 care homes across the Greater Manchester area as well as a head office. Each of the homes have different capabilities and facilities, with one home in particular being halfway between a care home and small hospital.

Issues Faced

Often the patients of these care facilities move between the homes, or in unfortunate circumstances into hospital.

Therefore the patient medical notes are of vital importance and must be kept with the patient at all times. Before selecting Leemic as their technology solutions partner, each of the Borough Care homes had an individual printer, scanner and photocopier in each location. Plenty of paperwork was generated on a daily basis and prescriptions had to be faxed to the local chemists. This intricate approach had caused issues in the past and paperwork had, on rare occasions, gone missing, as there was no central database or server that house all key patient information.

The Solution

After a thorough look at the market, Borough Care selected Leemic as their trusted technology partner to provide them with a unique solution that catered for their complex requirements. This was a more multifaceted challenge than a generic print issue as it required an IT lead approach to ensure that the individual care homes were operating in harmony with clear communication across the group.

A freestanding multifunctional printer was placed in each of the locations and replaced the previous three individual machines. Each of the care homes was also provided with a Chrome Book computer, which was linked to a shared folder, housing all key patient information.

This IT focused solution eliminated any possibility of paperwork getting misplaced and allowed new nurses and doctors to access any missing information as and when they required it. Any new notes or updates can then be recorded as they were previously and then immediately scanned and saved to the shared folder. As a result, data is now far more secure, contributed to keeping costs low and has given the management team a greater overview over the usage of their machines.
